 2008 HEHA Annual Educational Conference
December 3 - 4, 2008
Ala Moana Hotel
Honolulu,  Hawaii

On December 3 & 4, 2008 the Hawaii Environmental Health Association in collaboration with the Hawaii Department of Health Environmental Health Services Division held its Annual Education Conference at the Ala Moana Hotel.  The conference was once again well attended with attendees from various branches of the Health Department,  Academia and the private sector.  This years conference was fortunate to have presenters from both within the state of Hawaii and the mainland presenting on a wide variety of subjects. The conference consisted of general environmental health presentations on the first day and concluded with concurrent sessions on day 2. The concurrent sessions were broken into a Food Section and a Vector Section.  The addition of the concurrent sessions has allowed a wider range of material to be covered during the 2 days.  Some of the subjects covered ranged from a variety of Vector presentations involcving Rodents and Mosquitoes to Bed Bugs and Leptospirosis.  The subject of Nanotechnology was well presented by James Dingman of Underwriter Laboratories, and Carl Osaki made excellent presentations about the essential services of Environmental Health.  Volcanic emissions and haze was covered and provided much new information to those not familar with the subject.   There were presentations on tattooing, body piercing and modifications which provided a  new insight to what is occuring in this area today.   The annual educational conference provides an excellent tool for anyone in the State of Hawaii involved in the  environmental health profession to keep abreast of activities both locally and beyond.  For more information you may contact us at: info@hehaonline.org
